Ssl Strengths And Weaknesses Revealed

February 8, 2017 Web Design

SSL, otherwise known as Secure Sockets Layer or Transport Layer Security (TLS), is a protocol that provides a secure channel of communication for two programs. This creates endpoints for communication called the “sockets” to affect connections. A bit of the process can be compared with TCP, but the encryption capabilities present in SSL are greater than TCP. Created by Netscape, the privacy of communication and data is ensured because the encryption technology is capable of verifying the identity of the parties involved in the communication. SSL is important in dealing with a complete server, which requires transmitting sensitive information on a web site. The encrypted connection is created between the web server and web browser, which forestall possible point of data tampering, identity theft, fraud, and eavesdropping.

To identify the security and privacy of communication, the SSL encryption is identified through the presence of padlock icon in web browsers or green-colored address bar. To enable SSL on websites, SSL certificates must be obtained by purchasing the same from certificate authority. Purchase of ssl certificates must be made only from trusted and reputable authority. Once the requirements are complied with, private and public keys may be used in decrypting message depending on the nature of keys used to encrypt a message. In any case, a public key encrypted message can only be decrypted using a public key or vice versa. The SSL certificate is issued with a public key.

The SSL Handshake will verify the genuineness of server’s certificate. If the certificate is authentic, encrypted application data can be sent. Basically, the foregoing discussion displays the advantages of SSL.

However, one of the disadvantages of SSL Certificate is that the flow of communication is slower than without SSL. The process of SSL handshake gives each communicator added works. The site performs slowly because nothing is cached. Reloading all images, style sheets, and scripts, will be done for each new page. This may be disadvantageous to both the server and client. However, the process is needed to allow visitors to come in and go. To lessen the effect, simpler web design will help a lot.

Another thing to consider is the study made by Ethical Hackers. They have already spoken and discovered that the use of SSL does not give a 100% privacy and security assurance. Based on their research, 30 per cent of SSL sites are unsecure.

Nevertheless, the use of SSL will build confidence among clients. It should be noted that clients, especially those availing of online payment method feel more secure to push through with their payment if they are guaranteed of nondisclosure of their personal and bank details.

Important Attributes Of A Food Industry Web Design

February 8, 2017 Web Design

This is a proven fact that website is the biggest and the most prominent representation of an organization. Target market measures the strength of an organizations corporate calibre by evaluating the quality and standard of its website. The importance of a web design has increased tremendously because it is now no more just a source of acquiring information but it also serves a platform for making sales.

This advancement has made it more important for web designs to be compelling in order to attract the target customers. With the start of online trade, it has become more essential and crucial for organizations to gain the trust of their customers and this requires transparency to be reflected through all activities taking place at website.

Food Industry is one of the most lucrative industries in the world. There is a lot of scope to excel and its target market is huge. Whether someone owns a restaurant or is a retailer for food items, an appropriate web design can do wonders for his/her business. Do you know what this appropriate web design refers to? What are those attributes that must be part of a food industry website? If not then this article will surely be worth reading.

Unique Representation

As discussed earlier that web design is surely a representation of an organization but it can only boost the business if it is unique and captivating. Almost every organization holds similar targets to be achieved through their website but then why only few of the organizations are able to reap its benefits? Have you ever pondered over this point? The simplest answer is their different and innovative approach. Their web design and its content magnify the importance of their products or services for their target audience which brings them more and more customers.

There are organizations which use images that are there for ages and people have already seen them at one place or the other. This affects the quality of their web design but reputed organizations place innovative and creative images of fruits, vegetables or other food items to help attract and entice their target market.

Highlight Your Business Vision

Your business vision is not just a statement to be written or mentioned at your website rather it is the driving force for your growth and prosperity. Successful organizations streamline their work processes and strategies in light of their vision and goals. Thus, vision must not be restricted to only two to three lines at the website. It must be elaborated to let customers get an authentic image of an organizations corporate stature.

Suppose your business vision is to ensure hygiene in all your products and you have also adopted such procedures that help you accomplish your vision then this must be highlighted at your web design. This will provide your customers with a confidence that they have chosen a brand that ensures health and cares for them. Thus, youll be able to gain the trust of your customers with ease.
Food is all about temptation and enticement therefore a food industry web design should be able to induce both these emotions.

How A Mobile Web Design Can Boost Your Conversion Rate

February 5, 2017 Web Design

We have seen a huge increase in the ownership of smartphone and tablet devices revolutionising the way in which we browse the internet. Currently 7% of all e-commerce website traffic is coming from mobile devices, and that figure is only set to increase – a recent study has shown that by 2013 we are more likely to use a tablet or smartphone to search the internet while at home. With these figures in mind retailers have quickly been jumping on the mobile site bandwagon, to make sure that they dont miss out on any valuable sales. But is it really worthwhile? Surely a well-designed normal website will work just as well?

Unfortunately, in reality, the answer has to be no. Potential customers will of course be able to browse your website on their mobile device if you do not have a specifically designed site, but the likelihood is that it will be difficult and confusing for them to use  ultimately reducing the conversion rate on the site and losing sales. If a shopper clicks through after a search or seeing an advertisement it is extremely important that they are faced with a site that is user friendly so they are less likely to bounce off and find another site that better serves their needs. This is why it makes sense to invest in a mobile site  you may well be losing customers who are ready to click the buy button simply because the site is confusing to use. The frustrating thing is that this barrier is so easily crossed.

A mobile site is an ideal platform to boost your conversion rates. The limitations on a mobile site means that there are less diversions and distractions for visitors, there are fewer ads and unnecessary content. Consumers cant get lost within an app and should only be able to go one direction – straight to a conversion.

Another great aspect of a mobile site is that a browser can easily click to ring the company they are looking at or send an email, this interaction you can possibly have with a potential customer really needs to be in the fore front of your mind when designing a mobile site.

When designing your mobile site it is important to have as strategy in place in order to optimise and increase your conversion rate. Considering the business objectives is fundamental  as it would be for a normal site, but there are also other things to consider when designing a mobile site. Going for a simple design is a good idea, it means that the website is easier and quicker to download but this doesnt have to be at the cost of design. Single columns also work very well along with collapsible options. Pulling together all these ideas will really help to improve your conversion rate, helping you to really get the most out of your mobile site.

Building A Website With Xsitepro V2 And Dlguard

February 5, 2017 Web Design

Although I can build websites with html or use Dreamweaver and Frontpage I am not an expert website designer and to be honest I struggle with software and scripts. Accepting my limitations I bought the XSitePro web design software in 2007 and upgraded to XSitePro V2 last year.

When I first got XSitePro I built my digital download site solely using that. Used Paypal as my payment processor and had thank you pages with download links for every product. It was a cheerful but not very professional looking site. I was fond of my efforts but there were problems with my download links being accessed by cheats and as time passed I began to cringe at the unprofessional look of my website.

As I had made a major investment in some software called Memberspeed I decided to rebuild the site using that. Although the software was intended to build membership sites it has a shopping cart and article directory which meant that I would get regularly updated content to help the site along in the search engines.

Fine but the fatal flaws were that using the software was time consuming and difficult for me to figure out and that it wasn’t flexible enough. For somebody with greater website design skills it might not be a problem but for me it was. My website looked more professional on the surface because I used a ready built Memberspeed template, but the shopping cart looked an uninviting mess that I simply did not have the skills to rectify.

Sales disappeared and another solution was called for. I wanted part of the solution to be XSitePro V2 because I love working with it. I have tried to use other shopping carts but find them difficult to understand and I don’t find them flexible enough for my limited skills. I had regularly seen posts in forums about using DLGuard as a shopping cart, or indeed paying memberships. Most but not all of the posters recommended DLGuard, but not everybody is going to like the same thing.

One day a question was asked about whether or not DLGuard could be integrated with XSitePro V2. The replies were all in the positive and when I checked out some of the sites indicated as using both I was quite impressed. A timely payment from Google Adsense was deposited into my PayPal account so I thought ‘go on girl go for it’.

I bought DLGuard for the princely sum of $146.05 including VAT. Before I could use it I needed to build the bones of a site, and being an impatient bod it was a good job that I had the speed of XSitePro. I used XHeader (a freebie with XSitePro V2) to make the header and utilised the many inbuilt design features to build the rest of the site. Not perfect but it looks more professional than my first digital download site and I can make alterations very easily.

My next step was to unzip DLGuard and upload it to my website following quite easy instructions. It wasn’t long before I’d uploaded my first product and added my Getresponse autoresponder details. That’s built in with both XSitePro and DLGuard so that was the easy part.

My next step was to redesign the DLGuard shopping cart to make it look like my website design. I sat and looked at the screen, scratched my head a few times before I decided that I was out of my depth. I went on to the DLGuard and XSitePro forums looking for how to tutorials and couldn’t find any. I thought about it for a while and decided that the only way to do what I wanted was to experiment.

I had a list of alterable DLGuard pages so I visited my sites Cpanel and viewed the source files. I wanted to edit them but being cautious I copied the source files into notepad before I began. That way if I boobed I would be able to replace the original source files.

An hour later I had added my new header to the shopping cart, altered the background colour and a few other things to give the appearance of integration. Considering how hopeless I am with scripts and software and my lack of design expertise I have surprised myself with what I have achieved.

My website now has an integrated shopping cart and my downloads are secure from cheats. It has flexibility in that I can add articles and reviews quickly and whenever I want. To my eyes it looks better than the previous two designs and it’s even started to make sales again after a spell in the doldrums.

One little glitch was with my first sale on the new site. I had redesigned the product download page and to check to see if everything was working I reduced a product to $0.01 and bought it with a joint Paypal account that I have with a partner. As I was testing I got called away and when I got back to my computer somebody else had bought the product and told me that the download link didn’t work. No it didn’t because I hadn’t uploaded the blooming product at that point. But, never mind the lower price than normal sale tested the rest of the work that I’d done and showed me that yes XSitePro and DLGuard do work together and it isn’t all that difficult.

The 90s Called, They Want Their Web Design Back!

February 3, 2017 Web Design

When you look at your site, can you beam with pride and say to yourself, mighty fine website I have here! Kudos to my website development firm.

Or do you scuff your head, review your competitors site, then look at your site again and mutter to yourself, serves me right for employing this so-so web design firm, I certainly got what I paid for – quite outdated, ancient looking site straight out of the 90s!

If you dont really know what an outdated website looks like, listed here are 5 indicators it is advisable to look out for. Should your site have any of these elements, then maybe youd like to meet with a new website design firm that will help you update the appearance of your website. After all, you dont want your customers to think they got sent back to the 90s!

1.Ugly Patterned background – If your site has this ridiculous background image (patterns commonly), which undoubtedly decreases the website speed (be alarmed that Google also looks at site speed as an aspect in the rankings), then perhaps its time to take down your geocities inspired site and upgrade to a new one. Most brand new sites dont make use of background images because they comprehend it slows down loading time of their sites. Should you want to use one, ensure its related to your website, its optimized and its file size reduced so your website visitors wont need to wait till another century for the picture to finally load.

2.Rotating Flaming Logo – oh yeah please burst into flames already! Anybody whos ever been doing web design knows how outdated this style is. A revolving flaming logo on top of the page, and help you god, utilizing comic sans or some odd looking font from 1998. Helvetica sends out its hello (and would want to remind you that its one of the favorite fonts of designers both offline and online).

3.A copy right notice that says a year thats outdated. Precisely how long has it been since your internet site has been modified? Your customers will unquestionably be turned off or at the least, baffled you havent updated your internet site in a long time. For that matter, nearly anything that signifies an old date! From copyright date, to previous updates on your blogs (folks choose to read something up-to-date, rather than outdated). Additionally, Google likes fresh & new content, so dont be a bit surprised your site isnt positioned on the search results pages.

4.Frames – are you aware of anyone that actually utilizes frames these days? Nobody uses frames any longer. Except if your website hasnt been updated since the late 90s. First, SEO-wise its not the best approach in their book, and second, it just doesnt look nice anymore. Nor will it look nice whenever your site is seen on mobile. And Im sure youre aware, many people these days surf the web on their mobile phones. You dont want to lose that market.

5.A website that only looks good on Internet Explorer. Theres Opera Mini, Chrome, Rockmelt, Firefox and other modest web browsers out on the internet and theyre catching up on the user base of Internet Explorer. Remodel your website and make sure it appears fine on all browsers.

So is your website guilty of the above crimes? Hear this – theres still hope. Redesign your site and get ideas from other websites for any fresh web design trends. Work with a web design firm that will have your own interests at heart. Bear in mind, your website may be old (domain name has been in existence for several years or more), but the user interface can be brand new, kept up to date, and refreshing to your site visitors. Sit down and deliberate the value of your website design and usher in the new web designs of the Modern day!

Jwebutils – Html 5, Css 3 & Json Using Java From Wireweb Web Design

January 20, 2017 Web Design , , ,

A few months back while I was sat working on a project I came across the need for an HTML 5 friendly Java library. Something that could aid my attempts at creating a tag library and to generate AJAX response messages using HTML 5 and JSON. I knew I’ve seen some or at least one of these libraries around before, in fact I think the Apache Software Foundation has a project for this, namely Jakarta ECS.

ASF host a great number of brilliant projects for daily use but I felt that I needed something a bit more elaborate and I also wanted support for JSON and eventually CSS 3 properties. This is where I came up with jwebutils, a Java library for creating HTML 5, CSS 3 and JSON markup. It has a few core capabilities which I thought I’d mention in this article.

HTML 5
It supports all HTML 5 tags, wow, well to the degree where you still have to type in the value in the attribute your self, so for instance you could do something like this to create a div tag with a class attribute set to helloworld.
final Div div = new Div().styleClass(“helloworld”).body(“Hello World”);

Now calling div.toString() will print out a nice HTML 5 div tag.
Hello World

JSON
Now this is another core feature of jwebutils, it lets us use Java to create what will be JSON markup. In order to create a JSON object all you need to do is use the JsonObject class.
final JsonObject jsonObject = new JsonObject(“”);

Now lets add a member to that object.
jsonObject.member(new JsonKeyValuePair(“someNumber”, 6));

This will add an Integer member to the object with the name someNumber and the value 6. When printing this object out using its toString() method we’ll get some valid JSON markup.
{“someNumber” : 6}

That might not be the most exiting example but you get the point and in the same manner you can add any of the standard types such as String, Float, Double, Boolean, Character and others. Strings and characters are of course special cases and will be handled for you, where certain characters will be escaped and the whole string will be surrounded by quote signs.

The library also has a JsonMarshaller believe it or not, it will take your object and convert it into a JsonObject, how brilliant is that, you can simply just output your POJO’s as JSON.

In order to create a marshaller and marshall an object we need to create the marshaller and call the marshall() method.
final MyObject myObject = new MyObject();
final JsonMarshaller jsonMarshaller = new JsonMarshaller(MyObject.class);
final JsonObject jsonObject = jsonMarshaller.marshall(myObject);

Now using the created JsonObjects toString() method will get us a nice JSON object.
{
“string” : “string”,
“integerPrimitive” : 6,
“longPrimitive” : 7,
“shortPrimitive” : 12,
“bytePrimitive” : 127,
“booleanPrimitive” : true,
“floatPrimitive” : 14.23,
“doublePrimitive” : 3.141592653589793,
“characterPrimitive” : “A”
}

Of course the object I used for this was called MyObject and contained those members with those values, you’ll just have to take my word on that.

Conclusion
Unfortunately I’ve not got around to building a first release of this library but I hope to do so soon. Other brilliant features also include User agent detection and some minor CSS 3 support.

Doodles

There is much controversy among psychologists as to why people doodle. Many suggest that during a negotiation should a party begin to doodle, his interest is waning. He is expressing that he prefers not to communicate with his counterpart. They go on to say that because the doodler actually has much praise for his creative work, this further lessens direct contact. Other analysts suggest the doodler is actually bored and because of this, wants to be elsewhere, hence he starts to doodle. Regardless as to why one might doodle, the following doodles have been agreed upon as to what they mean:

Figure 12, disclosing heavy and angular strokes shows repressed feelings of anger.
The airy and rounded rhythmic strokes in figure 13 reveal a desire to escape from reality.

A monogram or similar design penned in figure 14 testifies to one who is egotistical.
A design repeated many times as in figure 15 indicates frustration.
In figure 16, squares or other geometric designs signify a practical nature.
Heavy-pressured strokes as in figure 17 expose an obsessive nature.
The light-pressured strokes depicted in figure 18 betoken a weak will.
Odd shapes or designs as demonstrated in figure 19 displays a neurotic or pathological weakness related to an inability to properly communicate with others.
An arrow or arrows as in figure 20 demonstrate one calculating, perhaps being cool temperamentally.

A separate square or squares as in figure 21, disclose the practical.
Geometrically linked squares as in figure 22 reveal having concrete, practical concepts.
The tightly drawn whirl penned in figure 23 testifies to being tense, anxious.
The three-dimensional forms being doodled in figure 24 display having a probing intellect.
Sharp, jagged lines expose resentment, even hostility. These doodles are often done during arguments (see figure 25:)
A triangle betokens having a strong, well-directed mind in adults, exceptional intelligence in children under six (see figure 26:)
The curved figures in figure 27 are indicative of one easy going, good-natured.
A circle as in figure 28 discloses closing up, warding off the outside world.
Figure 29, displays steps and ladders, indicating the desire to climb up in the world.
Figure 30, has a spiders web design, disclosing one preoccupied with self but seeking to widen horizons.
Random helter skelter figures without clear-cut patterns as seen in figure 31 are indicative of one being prone to emotional conflict, confused in personality.
The tick marks in figure 32 betoken one concentrating on business at hand.

The frames that were penned in figure 33, signify having a feeling of fatalism, of being caught and frustrated by sex and life. Notice that in figure 34, there is repetition, demonstrating the ability to enjoy daily routine work. Glancing back at figure 15,

where a design is repeated many times, discloses frustration. This is because a design is something that the writer is creating, therefore repetition is disclosing a personal view, the repetition of, showing the frustration. In figure 34, the repeated figure is a number, which is standard, having a specific pattern, an objective structure, hence this particular repetition is not a subjective creation, therefore, a number drawn frequently indicates the ability to enjoy routine work.
In figure 35, we see short confused dashes, displaying the dynamic, colorful, forceful, creative, restless personality.
A three dimensional shape as in figure 36, exposes one being good at taking the easy way out.
Jagged lines as in figure 37 betoken one aggressive and defensive.
A figure in a frame as in figure 38 tells of one believing in safety first.
The involved design in figure 39 demonstrates being shrewd, diplomatic, afraid of persecution.
Figure 40 shows crossbars showing one who is instinctively rebellious, pugnacious.
Linked circles as in figure 41 reveal a logical, deductive, consequential character.

The spiders web without links penned in figure 42, discloses one who is systematic, analytical, able to organize.
Animal doodlers are usually nature lovers, depending upon the type of animal drawn (see figure 43).

Hidden and not so hidden hostilities are shown in doodles. Weapons,
vicious animals and hanging men show the doodlers true thoughts. One who doodles a house shows whether or not the doodler wants to intercommunicate. If the house has no doors or windows, the doodler is aloof.
If there is a doorway and a doorknob the doodler wants company (see figure 44).
If there is smoke coming out of the chimney, this is a warm active home (see figure 45).
Small vertical lines that have on their sides horizontal lines that are surrounded by a large blank area, which may be parallel or met at right angles, disclose introversion, one who feels victimized by the overbearing world and seeks to flee (see figure 46). Rounded cloud-like shapes as in figure 47, their curves lying within each other, display your sensitivity to the needs of others, and that you are pliable, even in difficult situations. In addition, some daydreaming may be expected.

When a vehicle of transportation is doodled, particularly a boat, train or plane, though this shows a desire to travel, it often shows an underlying feeling of anxiety that you believe ought to be changed, hence the desire to go elsewhere.
